Care Philosophy

Dr. Timothy Ung is a neurosurgeon with specialized expertise in the diagnosis and surgical management of pituitary tumors and complex brain tumors in neurosurgical oncology. He is recognized for his meticulous surgical technique, patient-centered approach, and commitment to advancing care for patients with tumors of the brain, spine, and skull base. He completed his neurosurgical training at the University of Colorado and advanced fellowship training at Stanford University. Dr. Ung has extensive experience treating both benign and malignant intracranial tumors. His clinical practice emphasizes minimally invasive cranial, endoscopic approaches, and stereotactic radiosurgery when appropriate, aiming to maximize tumor control while preserving function. In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Ung is actively involved in multidisciplinary care, collaborating closely with endocrinologists, radiation oncologists, neuro-oncologists, and otolaryngologists to develop individualized treatment plans. His academic interests include improving surgical outcomes, refining tumor management strategies, and contributing to research and education in neurosurgical oncology. Information for Referring and Transferring Patients

    Clinical Interests for Referring Providers

I am fellowship trained in neurosurgical oncology and stereotactic radiosurgery and specialize in the management of brain and spine tumors. My clinical interest include primary and metastatic brain tumors and include primary gliomas, meningiomas, skull based tumors, spine tumors and pituitary tumors. Additional clinical interest include microvascular decompression for trigeminal neuralgia and hemifacial spasm, Chiari malformations, hydrocephalus, and general neurosurgical pathologies.

    Research Interest for Referring Providers

Treatment of primary and metastatic brain tumors remains primitive and additional research is needed to further understand the driving forces behind tumor progression and recurrent. My neuro-oncology research is focused on investigating the mechanisms that drive glioma tumor progression and tumor recurrence. Research into the molecular and clinical characteristics that drive tumor progression and recurrence will further our understanding of how best to surgically and medically treat these aggressive tumors.
